TUSKEGEE, Ala. (September 9, 2019) 鈥 Promoting wellness is the focus of the 快活视频 College of Veterinary Medicine鈥檚 second annual 鈥淪tride for Wellness鈥 5K walk/run event on Sat., Oct. 5. The College is excited to host this event for the second year, which helped raise awareness and funds last year to support sickle cell anemia. 聽This year, the college is inviting the university family as well as the community to join in taking strides to raise funds to benefit Tuskegee Youth Safe Haven, Inc.

The Safe Haven was developed through a collaboration between the Milton S. Eisenhower Foundation, the Tuskegee/Macon County Community Development Corporation and the Tuskegee Housing Authority. The Tuskegee Youth Safe Haven has progressed to a year-round program with an academic year schedule and a summer camp.

鈥淔or two years now, the Health and Wellness Initiative that the College incorporated with the purpose to educate as well as offer opportunities to minimize high stress levels that veterinary student鈥檚 face while navigating through the curriculum and industry, has been active under the Office of Academic and Student Affairs,鈥 said Dr. Ruby L. Perry, dean.

鈥淯nder the leadership of Dr. Roslyn Casimir, associate dean for academic and student affairs, and Kheri Spence, who serves as the TUCVM director of student success and retention, our students, are getting meaningful programs designed to promote school-life balance which is a necessity,鈥 Perry said.

Like last year, for this fall term, the 5K Run/Walk is the featured health and wellness event for the college. However, the event is again providing an opportunity for campus-wide and community participation that will also increase awareness of and provide financial support to the Tuskegee Youth Safe Haven, Inc.聽 Early registration deadline is Sept. 13 and only early registrants will receive a t-shirt and a discounted rate. There are also opportunities for five sponsorship levels.

The 5K race route will start and finish at the College of Veterinary Medicine鈥檚 Patterson Hall promptly beginning at 9 a.m. with check-in beginning at 7:30 a.m. The course will take a 3.1-mile walk, jog, or run through the historic campus of 快活视频.
