Class of 1975 Johnson Haynes Jr., M.D. Originally from Opelika, AL passed away in Mobile, AL on Dec.2, 2022. After graduating听from high school in 1971, he entered Tuskegee Institute, where he听concentrated in pre-med studies and pledged the Alpha Phi Alpha听fraternity. He graduated from medical school at the University of South Alabama in听1980 to begin a career as an African-American trailblazer, the first to train听as a resident and a fellow at USA (Univ of South Ala Health). He joined the faculty in 1984 as the first听African-American clinical and basic sciences faculty member. He was a听devoted mentor to countless medical students and residents and a tireless听advocate for more opportunities in medicine for students from听disadvantaged communities.听In September 2022, USA named its听sickle cell center, which he headed since 2001, in his honor. The Alpha Phi Alpha Omega service was held at 7 pm on Thur.,听December 8, at Small鈥檚 Mortuary at 950 S. Broad Street in Mobile.听The funeral service was held at 10:30 am on Friday, December 9, at St.听Paul鈥檚 Episcopal Church at 4051 on Old Shell Road. The burial service was听held at 12 Noon on Sat, Dec. 10, at Garden Hills Cemetery听in Opelika, Al. He graduated from Carver High School, Montgomery, AL in 1967 and matriculated to Tuskegee Institute and Alabama State University.He was drafted into the United States Army where he served 12 years while being stationed in Iran, Germany, and the United States. He went on to work for the federal government for 35 years with positions at the United States Patent and Trade Office, the United States Postal Service, and the Veterans Administration Hospital. He retired in 2005 from federal service.听 |

After receiving a BS听degree in Electrical Engineering from Tuskegee Institute (now University), he was commissioned as a First Lieutenant in the United States Air Force in August 1965. He served 22 years in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1987 at Nellis AFB, Las Vegas, Nevada. After retiring from active duty, Jim was an independent certified Cisco Ntework Administrator Trainer where he traveled throughout the U.S. teaching network certification courses. |

Class of 1964 Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2018听at 2pm at Friday, Dec. 14, 2018听at 6pm at Rear Admiral Gaston听received a commission as an Ensign in the U.S Navy in December 1965. He had an impressive naval career spanning 31 years, including command of two destroyers and cruiser USS Josephus Daniels, and ashore as Commander Field Command, Defense Nuclear Agency and the first black Commander of Naval Training Center Great Lakes. He retired in 1995. Following retirement from the U.S. Navy, he pursued a successful corporate career at Waste Management, Inc. and Electronic Data Systems in senior executive positions. |

In 1981 she moved to Trenton, New Jersey and resided there for the next 19 years. In 2000, Mickey retired from the State of New Jersey Department of Agriculture and returned to Oak Ridge.听 |

 Class of 1927Amelia Platts Boynton Robinson听 Died August 26, 2015 She was a Civil Rights pioneer and longtime activist for human rights. She is听best known as the woman in the iconic photo of the 鈥淏loody Sunday鈥� civil rights march. She was gassed and brutally beaten by law enforcement agents at the foot of the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Ala., on March 7, 1965. During the 50th anniversary of the听march, she returned and was personally escorted across the bridge by President Barack Obama.听The Smithsonian Institution National Museum of African American History and Culture in collaboration with the 快活视频 Archives will preserve and share the legacy of this civil rights pioneer.听 |

| Class of 1940 Mildred Hemmons Carter Died October 26, 2011 She was the wife of Lt. Col. Herbert Carter, an original Tuskegee Airman. Both being pilots, they held a that lasted for 68 years. She was considered a part of the Tuskegee Airmen Legacy because she became the first female pilot to join the听Alabama State's Civil Air Patrol Squadron听in 1942, and she was the first black woman in Alabama to earn a pilot's license. |
