LOUISVILLE, KY — The Tuskegee track and field teams delivered outstanding performances at the SIAC Indoor Championships, presented by Cricket, held over the past two days at the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center in Louisville, Kentucky.
Over the course of two days, the Golden Tigers showcased their depth and versatility across sprint, distance, and field events, securing the SIAC Indoor Championship Title on the women's side, and third place on the men's side.
The Golden Tigers made a strong statement early, with Anitria Sangster leading the charge in the sprint events.
She captured gold in both the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes, running 24.76 seconds in the 200m and 55.51 seconds in the 400m. Sangster also finished second in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.71 seconds, adding critical points to Tuskegee's championship push.
An'Janae Latchinson added to the team's dominance, finishing second in the 400 meters (56.45 seconds) and fourth in the 60 meters (7.72 seconds). She also contributed a sixth-place finish in the 200 meters (25.43 seconds).
Amira Broussard also made her presence felt, securing an eighth-place finish in the 400 meters with 1:01.10.
Tuskegee's relay teams continued to be a difference-maker, with the distance medley relay team securing first place with a time of 13:36.86, providing valuable points to the team's overall total.
In the mid and long-distance races, Anaya Martin led the way in the 5000 meters, taking home first place with a time of 20:47.71. She was followed by Shalyah Tresvant, who place second in 22:31.70, and Genesis Harrell, who secured third in 22:43.21, giving the Golden Tigers a podium sweep in the event.
The field events played a pivotal role in Tuskegee's championship performance. De'Shell Carr turned in a silver-medal performance in the long jump, posting a best mark of 5.34 meters, while freshman Jurni Janac represented Tuskegee in the triple jump, recording a mark of 9.73 meters. This performance showcased her potential and added valuable points to the team's overall standing.
In the shot put, Matealia Harper demonstrated exceptional strength and technique, achieving a distance of 11.12 meters. Her performance not only highlighted her individual talent but also contributed significantly to the team's point tally. The weight throw saw Danielle Wilson excel with a throw of 13.84 meters, while Harper cleared a height of 2.13 meters in the pole vault.
The collective efforts of these athletes in the field events played a pivotal role in Tuskegee's overall performance at the SIAC Indoor Championships, reflecting the team's depth and commitment to excellence across all disciplines. With multiple podium finishes across the board, Tuskegee's women team claimed the 2025 SIAC Indoor Championship Title, capping off an incredible regular season indoor schedule.
The Golden Tigers not only secured the title, but also brought home two of the conference's most prestigious postseason awards. Martin was recognized as the SIAC Women's Track Performer of the Year, while head coach Lashundra Easterling was named Women's Track and Field Coach of the Year, leading the Golden Tigers to their first SIAC Indoor title.
The men's team exhibited strength in both track and field events. Freshman LaQuenton Underwood advanced to the finals in the 60 meters, securing an eighth-place finish with a time of 7.07 seconds.
In the 800 meters, freshman Carl Richards led the team with a fifth-place finish, posting a time of 1:59.07, while fellow freshman Jayden Davidson followed closely, securing sixth place with a time of 1:59.71.
The men's 4x400-meter relay team, comprising Justice Northern, Jarmarqus Jones, Jackson Murry, and Shawn Jarrett II, showcased exceptional teamwork and speed, recording a season-best time of 3:19.73. This performance not only demonstrated their synergy but also added valuable points to the team's overall standing.
In the distance medley relay (DMR), the quartet of Edgar Kosgei, Richards, Davidson, and Dennis Kibet combined their talents to secure a time of 11:05.33. Their coordinated effort in this grueling event highlighted the team's depth and endurance across middle and long-distance disciplines.
In the 3000-meter run, Kibet led the team with a time of 9:39.75, followed by Kosgei in fourth at 9:41.58. The distance duo also performed well in the 5000-meter run, with Kosgei finishing with a time of 17:11.56. Close behind, Kibet secured a third-place finish, clocking in at 17:12.39.
In the triple jump, freshman Christian Sanders led the Golden Tigers with a notable leap of 13.45 meters, securing a fourth-place finish. His performance added valuable points to the team's overall standing.
The men's pole vault event saw Christian Goode representing Tuskegee with a solid effort, clearing 4.25 meters to secure first place, followed by Jackson Murry in second place.
