¿ì»îÊÓƵ prelaw students hoping to figure out their next step after graduation were able to have their first talk with potential future law schools last month. The annual spring Law School Fair hosted by ¿ì»îÊÓƵ's Law School program allowed students an opportunity to meet admission representatives, receive more information about law school, and ask questions that will determine the best-fit school based on their career interests.

"This is a great event for students who are still exploring career opportunities and those who are in all stages of their preparations to enter law school," said Dr. Tammy Laughlin, Assistant Professor of Political Science. "We believe that the Law School Fair gets the message out to our students that we have a growing and dynamic prelaw program available to them."

From Albany Law School to Western New England University, there were over 90 law school representatives from across the country that students were able to engage.

"We are most excited that we are offering perhaps the best opportunity available anywhere for prospective law students to be informed about law school admissions.," said Laughlin. "As a small university, students get to have more meaningful conversations with a wide variety of law schools on every level from all over the United States."

Laughlin added that, unlike other forums, Tuskegee law students wouldn't have to wait in long lines to speak to the law school of their choice, as this is a part of what students experience as Tuskegee also holds informative forums.

"I am so excited and happy to attend this year's Law Fair," said senior Ta'nia Dixon. "¿ì»îÊÓƵ's Prelaw program is perfect because I get to find my next home as a future law student after graduating from the number three ranked HBCU in the country."

"I am so elated for all of the events that were planned– from a panel with attorneys to meeting LSAC. This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in law," said freshman Robert Holloman.

The Law Fair allowed students to hear about the University's accelerated (3+3) programs from all three of Tuskegee's (3+3) law school partners. AccessLex, the leader in law school financial education, will hold a forum to assist the students in how to find scholarships, manage their money, and paying for law school. In addition, the Law School Admissions Council (LSAC) will hold a forum to provide information about the Law School Admissions Test (LSAT) from the people who create the tests. New for this year includes the student recruitment coordinator for the Legal Defense Fund of the NAACP, who will educate students about their full-tuition law scholarship program.

Since starting the Law School Fair in 2018, Dr. Laughlin says being able to hold a fair with so many law schools participating is truly special. It speaks highly of the quality of students that we produce here at ¿ì»îÊÓƵ.

"I have had the distinct pleasure of seeing students come into our program and grow as individuals over four years," she continued.

Dr. Laughlin says she enjoys the journey of seeing her past students send pictures of themselves in front of their new law school, at their law school graduations, or even standing in the courtrooms as practicing attorneys.

"I get to read their personal statements and learn how they will strive for justice for everyone, and especially for African Americans –  ultimately, I get to see young people work hard toward a goal and truly make a difference in the world, and I believe the law school fair is a major component of that."
