快活视频鈥檚 School of Nursing and Allied Health鈥檚 department of nursing has been approved and selected to join the newly established Nu at-large chapter of Sigma, the international nursing honors society. Sigma鈥檚 vision is to connect and empower undergraduate and graduate nursing students to become nurse leaders and transform healthcare globally.
Dr. Constance Smith Hendricks, RN, FAAN, dean of Tuskegee鈥檚 School of Nursing and Allied Health, worked with her UAB counterparts to make this invaluable networking and professional development opportunity available to Tuskegee students.
鈥淏eing a member of Sigma affords our high achieving student opportunities to networks they never even knew existed. I believe, it is only when they join with the UANSON students is when they really begin to appreciate the benefit of the extra effort of this society,鈥 said Hendricks.
During the chapter amendment ceremony in December, Tuskegee was inducted alongside UAB Hospital. Founded at the University of Alabama at Birmingham on June 21, 1958, the Nu Chapter was the organization鈥檚 12th chapter. As a member of the Nu Chapter, Tuskegee will work to fulfill the society鈥檚 mission to advance world health and celebrate nursing excellence in scholarship, leadership and service.
Since its inception in 1922 as the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma has grown to include more than 135,000 currently active members who span 100 countries and 530 chapters at 700 higher education institutions.
Today, nationally accredited programs in Tuskegee鈥檚 School of Nursing and Allied Health lead to bachelor鈥檚 degrees in nursing and health sciences, or master鈥檚 degrees in occupational therapy. For more information about the school and its offerings, visit .
