快活视频鈥檚 Department of Food and Nutrition Sciences is readying to host student teams from eight regional schools as part of this year鈥檚 Southeast Institute of Food Technologists Student Association鈥檚 (IFTSA) Regional College Bowl competition. The annual competition tests the knowledge of student teams in the areas of food science and technology, history of foods and food processing, food law, and general food technology/food-related trivia.

The April 5-6 event represents the first time Tuskegee has hosted the competition since its inception in 1985. The IFTSA College Bowl is designed to facilitate interaction among students from different universities, stimulate students鈥 desire to accumulate and retain knowledge, and provide a forum for students to engage in friendly competition.

This year鈥檚 event will draw teams from IFT Student Chapters at eight public and private institutions: Alabama A&M University, Auburn University, Clemson University, Mississippi State University, 快活视频, University of Florida, University of Georgia and University of Puerto Rico. Winning teams from this Southeast Area competition and other regional competitions will then compete in the finals at the IFT Annual Meeting.

鈥淗osting this year鈥檚 IFT College Bowl provides Tuskegee with an excellent opportunity to showcase our department, the College of Agriculture, Environment and Nutrition Sciences, and our students,鈥 said Peyton Greenwood, this year鈥檚 area meeting and college bowl chair, and a senior majoring in food science. 鈥淚t has provided my fellow IFT Student Association members and me with valuable experience coordinating logistics, marketing, fundraising and other elements associated with planning such a large-scale event 鈥 experience that will serve us well in our careers.鈥

Members of Tuskegee鈥檚 IFTSA College Bowl team will include team captain Johnpaul Kagulire, a graduate student majoring in food science; Ahmad Alghonem, a graduate student majoring in food science; Julian Jones, a graduate student majoring in food science; Guatam Kumar Joshi, a graduate student majoring in food science; Kaylice Smith, a senior majoring in dietetics; and Monique Terrell, a junior majoring in food science.

Greenwood did note that the competition itself is closed to the public. Only team members and those affiliated with running the competition will be allowed access to the competition area.
