Global Fair encourages students and community to go global with 快活视频

The 快活视频 Global Office is offering students and the community a chance to take their learning global. On Tuesday, Sept. 25, a Global Education Fair will offer information related to cultural awareness, global programs and diversity in education.
The free Global Education Fair is open to students, employees and area residents and will take place in the 快活视频 Legacy Museum from 12 to 4 p.m.
During the fair, students will have the opportunity to learn about current study abroad options, learn from Tuskegee鈥檚 international students, and hear from domestic students and faculty about their experiences traveling and studying abroad. The event also will celebrate the university鈥檚 international presence and the work that students and faculty do abroad.
Dr. Rhonda Collier, director of the 快活视频 Global Office, said there are benefits in learning more about the world, and everyone should be able to take part in the exchange of knowledge.
鈥淚 want more people to be able to have a global experience, even if they aren鈥檛 able to travel to a country. By coming to the global fair, students and the community will have the chance to engage in intercultural sharing,鈥� Collier said.
This semester鈥檚 Global Education Fair will include a new element 鈥� a photo contest featuring photographs submitted by faculty and students of their travels around the world. To participate, faculty and students are asked to submit an 8鈥� x 10鈥� hard copy photo, that will be on display for judging. Registration for photos will take place from 11:00 鈥� 11:45 a.m. A first, second and third prize valued at $100, $50 and $25, respectively will be awarded at 3:45 p.m.
The fair last year attracted nearly 200 guests, ranging from Tuskegee students and faculty representing various academic majors to high school students to area residents.
鈥淭his year, Tuskegee students can expect to learn about scholarship opportunities available to study aboard, find out more on countries and programs where they might want to study and learn,鈥� she said.
Collier noted that the fair will spotlight an upcoming study abroad program entitled 鈥淔inding Wakanda鈥� 鈥� a trip specifically designed for HBCU students to study in South Africa.
During the 2017-18 academic year, nearly 65 Tuskegee students participated in study abroad programs that took them to four different continents and allowed them to participate in research and service-learning experiences, build networks and connect classroom principles with hands-on applications.
鈥淛ust last year, we had student and faculty research and educational trips to Egypt, Tanzania, Haiti, France, Brazil, Cuba, Spain and Canada,鈥� noted Collier.
For senior mechanical engineering student Shyla Hutchins, traveling abroad was such a humbling experience.
鈥淚 was engulfed in the culture, and I cannot wait to return,鈥� Hutchins said, speaking of her experience as part of a nine-student group that traveled to Haiti this summer. 鈥淢y favorite part was visiting an orphanage 鈥撯�� the children there were so loving and grateful to receive the gifts we brought for them, which included books, clothing, school supplies and even a couple of laptops.鈥�
Senior Courtney Peavy, who is double-majoring in English and communications, will also have a chance to participate in an upcoming abroad experience. Recently, Peavy was selected to travel to Israel as a participant in the Jewish National Fund's Caravan for Democracy Student Leadership Mission. She will travel from December 2018 through early January 2019, and will present more about her travels at next semester鈥檚 global fair.
Those attending the fair will be eligible for door prizes from study abroad providers, including IES Abroad, CIEE and Webster University.
