快活视频鈥檚 Board of Trustees is enhancing and revising the way in which it selects its alumni trustee. It will implement the new process this summer to fill the vacancy of current alumni trustee Dr. Irving McConnell, whose term expires this fall.
鈥淭he Board of Trustees frequently receives recommendations from alumni about how it can be more representative of and responsive to all university stakeholders,鈥 said John E. Page, the board鈥檚 chair. 鈥淭hese suggestions, along with additional research, have resulted in a new process that better aligns with our objective to find the best candidate for service on the board and to the university.鈥
The chief role of the alumni trustee is to help the board govern and make decisions specifically from a graduate鈥檚 perspective. Previously, the Tuskegee National Alumni Association鈥檚 five regions each identified an alumni trustee candidate to be voted on by the university鈥檚 entire alumni base.
As part of this new process, the board has appointed alumni to an ad hoc Committee on Alumni Trustee Elections, who will review candidate applications. They reside throughout the country and represent graduation classes from 1966 to 2011. They, with the assistance of the university鈥檚 coordinator of alumni affairs and reunion programs, will recommend up to six nominees as semi-finalists for consideration by the trustees鈥 Nominating and Board Structure Committee.
The nomination period will begin on June 19 and close on July 26. Alumni interested in nominating themselves or another graduate should visit http://www.tuskegee.edu/alumnitrusteenomination, where they can find the online application, nominee qualifications, and more information about the selection process.
On Aug. 20, the board鈥檚 Nominating and Board Structure Committee will announce up to three finalists from the recommendations provided by the Committee on Alumni Trustee Elections. Online voting, administered by Votenet Solutions Inc., will begin on Aug. 23 and continue through Sept. 11. The finalist receiving the most votes (a plurality) will then go before the full Board of Trustees for its consensus. Once the trustees approve the elected finalist for board service, he or she will begin serving as the alumni trustee following the board鈥檚 fall meeting, and continue doing so through spring 2022.
鈥淓veryone involved 鈥 from members of the ad hoc committee to trustees who will select our finalists 鈥 are fully committed to protecting the integrity of this enhanced process,鈥 said Trustee Erick Harris 鈥09, who serves as vice chair of the Nominating and Board Structure Committee. 鈥淲e look forward to identifying candidates whose commitment to Tuskegee is exemplary, and who are willing to devote their knowledge, time and financial resources to the university鈥檚 benefit.鈥
Alumni wishing to update their contact information to ensure they receive updates throughout the process, as well as information on how to vote, should complete the university鈥檚 .
