Bell to begin tenure as interim provost in January 2020

Dr. Carla Jackson Bell​President Lily D. McNair has announced that Dr. Carla Jackson Bell, currently dean of the Robert R. Taylor School of Architecture and Construction Sciences, will begin serving as interim provost and vice president for academic affairs beginning Jan. 3, 2020. She fills the vacancy left by Dr. Roberta Troy, who will retire from the university as interim provost at the end of the fall semester.

Bell will serve in this capacity until the university's permanent provost begins his or her tenure, which McNair expects to be during late summer. During Bell's service as interim provost, Professor Roderick Fluker will serve as the school's interim dean.

The university has retained the search firm of Isaacson, Miller to assist with the search. Faculty and students serving on the search committee are:

  • Dr. Ruby Perry, Dean, School of Veterinary Medicine, Chair of the Committee
  • Dr. Sharron Burnett, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
  • Dr. Maria Calhoun, Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering 
  • Cedric Davis, junior, architecture
  • Dr. Kai Koong, Dean, Andrew F. Brimmer School of Business and Information Sciences 
  • Dr. William Ndi, Faculty Senate Chair and Professor of Modern Languages, Creative Writing and Professional and Technical Communication
  • Abena Myers-Taylor, Interim Vice President for Student Affairs
  • Dr. Clayton Yates, Professor of Biology and Director, Center for Biomedical Research

Bell holds a bachelor's degree in architectural science, which she earned from ¿ì»îÊÓƵ in 1991 before later earning a master's in fine art from the Savannah College of Art and Design, and a Ph.D. in interdisciplinary arts and sciences with a specialization in architecture education from The Union Institute and University. After 13 years on the Tuskegee faculty, she served in teaching and administrative roles with Auburn University's College of Architecture, Design and Construction before returning to Tuskegee as the school's dean in 2016.
